SUP Wise ACTIV (Enclosed Flat Water)

Overview:

The ASI SUP Wise Activ (Enclosed Flat Water) paddle skills course is the first step in learning to SUP.  
It is a practical on water program to assist new and inexperienced paddlers to start to gain SUP confidence and learn basic SUP environmental awareness and SUP skills and knowledge. 

SUP Activ is only delivered by ASI Accredited SUP Schools under the guidance of an Element67 ASI accredited SUP Instructor. 

The program broken is into sections that can be made available in 1 full day, 2 x ½ day sessions or 3 x 2 hour sessions. 
It also provides valuable hours on the water under the watchful eye of an Element67 ASI qualified instructor who will provide feedback and coaching throughout the time on the course.

For a first time paddler additional experience on the water, using and practicing the techniques and skill learned, sets the foundations to become a more proficient paddler.

Aim:

This course aims to provide an introduction to stand up paddling and to gain the basic skills, knowledge and confidence to participate in SUP paddling sessions at enclosed flat water locations.

The course program covers environmental awareness of water, weather conditions and hazards of paddling at the course location. SUP paddling techniques to keep you safe including how to safely enter and exit the water, stopping and turning, paddle techniques, falling off and getting back on. 

Locations:

Applies to inland waterways and bodies of water including Lochs, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, canals:

  • no wider than 1 km (0.6 miles)

  • with no swell or breaking waves

  • wind speed less than 12 knots

  • no more than 250 metres from shore

Equipment:

The following is required to complete the training:

  • Flat water stand up paddle board, paddle, coiled leash

  • SUP clothing suitable for paddling

Element67 SUP school provides the above for all sessions. You are welcome to bring your own board and equipment. 
(Note: Your equipment is checked by the ASI SUP Instructor prior to use to ensure it is suitable). 

Course Requirements:

This is a participation course with no formal assessment. 

Topics Covered:

Environment & Safety

  • Awareness of the enclosed flat water environment, locations, water, and weather conditions and local hazards 

  • Self-rescue techniques 

Equipment

  • An introduction to equipment used for enclosed flat water paddling

Technique & Guidelines

  • Safe entry and exit

  • How to stop, safe falling and dismount

  • Getting back on board techniques

  • Basic turning strokes

  • Identify and practice the 3P’s of paddling

  • Identify and practice the 5 phases of the paddling stroke

Entry Requirements:

Be able to Swim 50 metres (164 ft)

SUP Wise Activ Option 1
1 x Full Day Course : £95 (6 hours in total)
SUP Wise Activ Option 2
2 x Half Day Sessions : £100 (2 x 3 hour sessions)
SUP Wise Activ Option 3
3 x 2 hour sessions : £35 per session total £105
The 1st 2 hour session is named the Starter session.
The 2nd 2 hour session you qualify as Improver
The 3rd 2 hour session you qualify as Cruiser
